Sleep Study:
Diving into this Case Study today, that brings so much joy into my life and business, to put into words the process of sleep training and what it looks like to work with, The Resting Bee. Sometimes I feel as if my business is on standstill, but then, I catch back up with previous clients and find out that wow, I am truly making a difference.
Within this Sleep Study we will walk through numerous questions to help other moms see that Sleep Training works and it stays.
Thinking of sleep training can make so many moms and dads become overwhelmed, or feel that it just won’t work for their little one, but I am here to say… it will and it is fabulous.
This client that I am discussing today was a mom who offered to be a volunteer client while I was completing my certification.
When we hopped on a 15-minute consultation call she was nervous and very passionate about wanting and needing her daughter to sleep, but also, feel safe.
When asking her about sleep training she stated that she believed that it was only for babies. She had no idea that older kids could go through the process, too!
This mom stated that her daughter for the first two years slept wonderful and then, her spouse brought their baby into the bed, and the rest was history. Next thing she knew she had a six- year old sleeping on a blanket bed in their bedroom.
Mom stated that she knew Sleep Training was something she was ready to commit to when she thought about the lack of sleep her daughter was getting, and herself. Mom was so tore up that her daughter had a beautiful room to sleep in, and instead, she felt safer on the floor. She wanted that to change.
SLEEP NEEDS:
Some identified sleep needs that mom and I discussed were:
Room Darkness needed to be fixed.
Bedtime Routine was not consistent.
Bedtime Chart needed to be in place for child to feel in control.
Daily Routine that consisted of quiet-time.
Sound Machine that played white noise consistently.
This six year old was sleeping in her mom and dads floor and she would not enter her room. She was afraid to sleep away from mom and due to this her sleep was not consistent or appropriate for her age. Mom said that she could see this carrying over into her daily life activities and school.
SLEEP SOLUTIONS:
Mom purchased the Hatch and used the colors and sounds for child to understand when it was time to sleep and time to wake.
Mom implemented a 30 minute bedtime routine that cued the child’s brain.
Mom implemented healthy daily routines and ensured her daughter was receiving the appropriate amount of sleep.
What were moms feelings during this change:
Mom discussed that she had a mix of emotions that were anxious, nervous and excited. Mom discussed that her child would get sick before entering her room and it caused mom so much anxiety.
About the child
6 -year old.
in school.
only child.
mom described her as a spitfire, a leader and strong willed.
MOMS HOPE:
That her daughter would feel comfortable within in her own room all while feeling loved, too.
What The Process Looked Like:
Mom and Sleep Coach implemented a gentle approach to the child’s daily and night routine that consisted of boundaries and expectations.
There were multiple hard nights that led mom to believe that this was not going to work, but after implementing the plan consistently, for 1.5 weeks, her six year old was sleeping 10.5 -11 hours at night, in her own room. Then, by the end of week two they were waking up celebrating!
The child would wake in the morning saying, “MOMMY, I DID IT!”
Mom stated that there was so much confidence gained from her daughter when she discovered that she could sleep in her own room, and receive the appropriate amount of sleep that she need for her age.
Almost nine months later and still there now seven year old, loves sleep. They went on vacation over the summer and ditched the routine and then, were back on schedule as soon as they were home.
IT WORKS:
Not only is this child sleeping wonderfully, but she plays in her room now. Reading to her stuffed animals, playing school and making memories.
IF you, have a child afraid to enter their room. Not wanting to enter without mom or dad, or chooses your bedroom floor over their bed, I’d love to help!
